The full quote of the title of this blog is:
Between stimulus and response, there is a space.
In that space is our power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and our freedom.
Viktor E. Frankl
I recently discovered, much to my dismay, that this line might not be by Viktor Frankl at all, just misattributed to him by Stephen Covey!
Regardless of origin, this quote had me all shook up.
That all our experiences, all our joys, and pains, our anguish, and sufferings, can all be whittled down to stimuli. That is liberating. And in this liberated space is the grace to choose a response.
This helps me live out the credo of Dulcius ex Asperis.
